The National Assembly is expected to debate the controversial petition that seeks to place an age limit of not more than 70 years for one to contest the Presidency on Tuesday.
However, Garissa Township MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has dismissed the petition terming it unconstitutional and asserted that it will be thrown out as soon as it will be present at the floor of the August House.
"What is before the House is a petition, and the Justice and Legal Affairs committee will throw it out for being unconstitutional," said Duale.
Opposition MPs have already claimed that the petition seeks to bar their leader Mr Raila Odinga from contesting the 2022 presidential elections given that the former Prime Minister is already beyond the 70-year mark. The opposition lawmakers have declared a fight against the petition.
"We have been discussing this in many of our meetings and it defies sense to us," said Kisumu Senator Fred Outa.
The petition was brought by Mr Mohammed Mohammud Sheikh of Wajir and the statement by Duale is seen as positive for Mr Odinga in the 2022 succession politics.
