Joseph Terer, a 42-year-old resident of Langas estate in Eldoret town has beaten all odds to earn a living through welding.

Terer a father of four, who does his job in Langas begun the wielding job about ten years ago after quitting a driving job due to poor pay.

"I began welding in late 2008 here in Langas after the post-election violence came to an end, but before I was a driver in one of the PSVs doing Eldoret-Bomet route where I resigned due to poor pay," he said.

Terer has been through a lot of challenges among them raising the capital to buy a welding machine and securing a room where he could open and operate his business. He had to raise Sh200,000 as a start-up for the business.

He revealed how he had saved enough money to expand his business after working for five years.

"I worked for five good years and in 2013 after saving enough money I decided to expand my already booming business and I bought other five welding machines," said Terer.

In that same year, he employed five other people who assisted him to run the business since it required more labour.

On the earnings he makes, Terer revealed the secret of the whopping amount he pockets monthly.

"Apart from doing home welding to my customers, I have secured tenders in several secondary schools and some universities where I supply metal chairs and also repair broken ones thus earning a total of between Sh80,000 to Sh120,000 monthly," he said happily.

"With the money, I pay school fees for my children in which two of them are in secondary school," Terer added.
