The national government is poised to ensure that every household across the country is connected with electricity by 2022.
According to the Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, the government is working on ensuring each Kenyan is connected to the national grid irrespective of his/her financial background.
“As a Ministry, we are determined to ensure that in the next 3 years 70 percent of Kenyans in the grassroots will be connected with electricity and come 2022 all Kenyans will be connected," said Keter after launching the second phase of the last mile connectivity project at Lotonyok primary school in Ainabkoi constituency, Thursday.
“Residents should not only use electricity for home consumption alone but also use it to start businesses which will help them earn a living and improve their livelihoods,” he added.
The CS, however, cautioned Kenyans of unscrupulous individuals out to fleece them their hard-earned cash with a false promise of helping them get connected with electricity.
He advised that the public should only engage with Kenya Power officials when seeking services of electrical connectivity and report to police anyone who attempts to demand money.
The second phase of the last mile connectivity project is expected to cost Sh15 billion with at least 2.4 million Kenyans to get electricity.
