Slightly a week after attending funeral for Tabitha Moige, wife to powerful Jomo Kenyatta's minister James Nyamweya, curtains fell down for Kenya's independence Education Minister Lawrence Sagini in August 1995.
Coincidentally, Sagini and Nyamweya were sworn political enemies with the former vowing to quit government of Jomo appointed Nyamweya as VP upon Joseph Murumbi's resignation (1966).
At the funeral in Matutu Farm, few kilometers from Sagini's Nyansiongo home, the Ex-Kitutu MP urged mourners to attending his impending death in days time.
"Sagini was categorical that mourners should also be prepared to attend his funeral in days time in such a number," recalls Julius Monda, an Ex-Councillor.
He adds: "The following day, news spread around that Sagini had been involved in an accident and that was shocking. We wondered why he insisted on his death at the funeral."
While Sagini represented Kitutu, Nyamweya, who would later die in September 25th the same year, represented Nyaribari on independence.
The death of Sagini, that took place a day after Nyamweya's wife burial, was a culmination of bitter rivalry between the two political supremos in Gusii land.
