Zakat Foundation of America on Wednesday donated food worth Sh1.6 million to needy people in Garissa to help them during the Ramadhan period.

Addressing the media in Garissa town, the CEO North Eastern Youth Development Adhan Awle said over 130 households have benefited from the donations. 

“During this Ramadhan period we expect needy people to be helped by well wishers, residents and other stakeholders across the county,” he said.

The CEO added that other groups intending to donate food are free to do so adding that the donations shall be distributed to the targeted people equally.

“People and groups should not fear giving out donations to help the less fortunate in the society. We will ensure the donations reach the targeted people,” he assured.

He said a similar donation will be made today to Hagadera refugee camp.

“Zakat Foundation of America will today give food donations to help residents living at Hagadera Refugee camp so that refugees can not feel ignored and neglected. More donations will be done across the county during the Ramadhan period and no one will be allowed to divert the donations for personal benefit,” said Awle.
