Brenda Lelit defied all odds to register a stellar performance in the 2017 KCPE examinations, scoring 395 marks at Bridge Academy, Roadblock in Uasin Gishu County.

Her hardworking single mother, Joan Cheptoo Lelit, earns a living from casual work.

Brenda secured Form One admission at Lugulu Girls High School, taking her closer to her dream of becoming a scientist.

She narrated the struggles she went through as a pupil and KCPE candidate.

She said her mother sometimes could not afford to make enough money to pay her fees.

“I used to stay at home because I couldn’t afford school fees. Teachers at Bridge Academy understood my situation and helped me excel in my exams,” she said.

"I don’t want to imagine what could have happened if I never joined Bridge Academy,” she added.

The Bridge Academy alumnus says she is ready for the tough challenge as she seeks to break the poverty circle in their family.

Bridge pupils have over the last three years posted incredible KCPE examination results, beating the national performance average.
