Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has joined the list of political leaders expected to battle it out in the forthcoming 2022 presidential contest.
Mutua, however, is yet to put into place solid measures that will guarantee him of the post, including selecting and announcing his running mate.
By taking the move early, the county chief will have prepared his supporters ahead of time and will have enough time to convince them into accepting his choice.
The county boss should also consider reaching out to fellow politicians to strengthen his bid.
He will obviously need endorsements and backing from influential counterparts, an achievement he can only make by ideologically wooing them.
To better the situation, he could go for a coalition of like-minded individuals and parties to create a stronger front.
He should as well iron out the current bad blood between himself and some of Ukambani region's political dons, including Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka whose national political influence could promote his bid.
Lastly, he should embark on a planning strategy. This will not only see him financially and strategically prepared ahead of time, but will portray him as an able candidate who is ready to take over the nation's leadership.
