According to the greenhouse farmers here, their new-found method of agriculture is proving to be much effective especially during rainy seasons when most crops are destroyed by rain.

Dennis Onyango, a horticultural farmer in the region says he decided to quit teaching nearly three years ago to focus on agriculture through the use greenhouses which he says is paying well.

"Greenhouse farming is proving to be an effective method of farming especially in this area where climate keeps on changing. Since I started this method of farming three years ago, I have gained enough and I urge other people in the area to embrace this method of farming," said Mr Onyango.

Governor Jacob Ranguma recently said the county government will do all it can to support horticultural farming in the area even as he asked the central government to fast-trak the completion of an extension projects at the Kisumu International Airport in order to create a terminal to handle horticultural exports from the area.

"Our farmers should not only farm hard but farm smart, some farmers lose their land after taking loans and fail to pay back due to poor farming methods," said Mr Ranguma.

The governor further said his county government is going to set aside more money in the next financial year to support horticultural farming in the area.
