Sunday 18, June will forever remain in the mind of boda boda rider Destiny Gitau after he went past President Uhuru Kenyatta security team to present the Head of State a Fathers' day gift.
Gitau has finally spoken of how he creatively crafted a plan of reaching close to the country's most guarded man to give him a copy of the Gideons International Bible.
Kimende residents are still wallowing in amazement over what they termed as a very hard move to pull, more so from an ordinary boda boda rider.
More surprising is how Gitau managed to seat just two rows behind the President at the St Peter and Paul Catholic church amid tight security still baffles many.
“When I saw him delivering the gift, I thought that was someone who looked like him or that I was dreaming,” said Robert Kimani.
Gitau said he had planed many times before to present the gift to Uhuru many time but his failure to do so was his biggest motivation.
“I had been looking for chances to give it to him. Every time he visited Kiambu county, I carried it but I didn't get a chance to give it to him,” he said.
The boda boda rider finally revealed his creative plan that finally bored fruits.
“I was smartly dressed in a black suit and a maroon tie. I pretended I was a leader. When the President arrived, I was among those he greeted. I followed other leaders and sat behind him," he said.
Gitau revealed how he talked with the parish father, who accepted to help him fulfill his dream, and when the time came he was introduced as a pastor with a gift for the Head of State.
“He quickly said, ‘Mr President, we have a pastor who wants to give you a present’. But before he finished, I took the Bible and the President came...we shook hands and he took it."
Gitau is now eargerly waiting for the President's call since he says, Uhuru took his contacts.
