A middle-aged man from Nakuru has admitted to slaughtering cats and selling the meat to unsuspecting samosa vendors in town.
The man identified as James Kimani confessed when he was arrested on Sunday after he was found skinning a cat.
Kimani said that he started the business of selling cat meat in 2012 after he identified a gap in the market.
The man who narrowly escaped death after angry residents descended on him said that he had been skinning cats for sale to some clients in town over the past seven years.
Kimani said that he has a ready market for his trade as some clients buy the cat skin while others go for the meat.
He however disclosed that his clients who have been buying meat from him do not what type of meat they bought.
According to him, he has made at least Sh500,000 after saying he has sold over 1,000 cats and that he earns at least Sh500 for every cat he slaughters.
“I began this business in 2012 after I saw there was need for the meat by samosa sellers. I tell my clients that I get the meat from Gioto (a popular dump site) but they do not know it is cat meat,” said Kimani.
Police officers from the nearby Ukulima Police post rescued the man from the wrath of the mob who had begun beating him when he was busted skinning the cat in an open field in Nakuru.
