The decision by a driver attached to Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga to hastily drive away from city center to her official residence saved Wanga and his Kisii counterpart Janet Ong’era from an attempted assassination, recalls Ong’era.
The two were part of NASA leaders who forced their way to city center despite the government ban on demonstrations within the CBD.
Recounting the nasty experiences, Ong’era claimed that gunmen in police uniform teargased them before shooting on the Rangerover owned by Wanga.
“We would be probably dead were it not the decision of the driver to hastily drive out of town. These people were determined to kill us,” recalled Ong’era.
She further said:” They followed us and even shot at us. We were quickly evacuated by some of our supporters to safety.”
Police are yet to ascertain the claims even with physical assessment of the vehicle showing destruction from objects believed to be bullets and teargas canisters.
For about thirty minutes, police engaged NASA supporters in running battles within the CBD as the demonstrations against IEBC escalated in other parts of the country.
