Gor Mahia’s fans are the most feared group of fans in the country and by extension the region, but the tables were turned when the team visited Tunisia for their match against Esperance.
The team and the technical bench got a baptism of fire in their 1-0 loss to Esperance in a CAF Champions League encounter.
Coach Dylan Kerr and other fans that were in the 60,000 capacity stadium on Sunday have taken to social media to decry the mistreatment meted upon them on and off the pitch, in the highly emotional and ill-tempered match.
Gor will now wait for their fate in the CAF confederations playoffs round where the first round losers are pooled against Confederations Cup first round winners for a chance to play in the CAF confederation cup in the group stages.
The draw will be done today, Wednesday at the CAF offices, and Gor will learn on their fate. Fans and other officials took to their social media pages to air out their frustrations;
“That was a hell of a game today I watched it and how these guys overpower and take dives, They must now play in Kenya and get the same treatment, they acted like bullies and then run to protect the officials who I thought had a good game for them,” wrote Kerr on his twitter account.
Tom Bwana, a football fanatic on his Twitter account said; “If bottles would have been thrown at this same fixture in Kenya, CAF would have called us all available names on earth including a lifetime ban. They're not likely to do the same to Espérance. No.”
