In politics, there are no immortals but Kenya has two politicians who have refused to ‘die’.
The first President Jomo Kenyatta and first Vice President Oginga Odinga have resurrected and are living in our political landscape through their sons.
The rivalry experienced after independence is the same thing that we are witnessing today. Uhuru Kenyatta does not prioritize Luo Nyanza in his campaigns and official trips but if he pays a visit, he has to behave in a pro-Raila manner. Some parts of Central Kenya are no go zones for Raila.
NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga reflects the fearless figure in Oginga that saw Jomo sack him. The then Head of State was tired of Oginga’s opposition even when he was part of government. The two differed on every aspect of governance.
Today, there is an Oginga’s son that never appreciates what Jomo’s son has done even if it has positive impacts on the people he purports to fight for since the 80s.
Should we believe that everything done by President Uhuru is bad? On the other hand, Uhuru Kenyatta views all ideas from Raila as founded on opposition agenda and not for the good of Kenyans.
Is everything proposed by Raila aimed at killing Uhuru’s future? Indeed, Jomo Kenyatta and Oginga Odinga are still alive.
