The country is going for an election- seven months away- to be precise and intense lobbying is ongoing from across the political divide.

However, there is, even more lobbying that revolves around the 2022 presidential succession politics.

There has been talk -going by URP/TNA 2013 Memorandum of Understanding that voters from Central Kenya will back Deputy President William Ruto in his bid to become president in 2022.

This, it's said, will be done as an 'appreciation'' to the DP for supporting Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2013 general polls.

But the question is, will Ruto get support from Central Kenya when 2022 comes beckoning?

ln 2016, Kiambu Governor William Kabogo caused a stir when he publicly, at an event in his county, said Central Kenya will not back Ruto.

Kabogo's utterance caused a political storm back in Rift Valley, DP Ruto's political backyard.

Leaders from Rift Valley and the Kalenjin Council of Elders stood and told Mr Kabogo to his face that the Kikuyu will have no choice but to support Ruto's presidential bid when that time comes.

Kabogo was forced to withdraw the statement when he accompanied the DP for a function in Uasin Gishu.

Now, going by the recent developments- during the burial of former Nominated MP Mark Too- it became clear that despite promising to back Ruto for his 2022 presidential bid, Mr Ruto is still a man in a cage. Why?

When Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, during the ceremony, stood to address mourners, he received a rousing welcome unlike Ruto who constantly struggled to charm the audience.

Mr Moi's speech was punctuated by applauses unlike Ruto's which did not attract a lot of attention.

It came out clear that Mr Moi had his day as he confidently and calmly addressed mourners. Ruto on the other hand, while speaking, looked tense and struggled to look for better words to say.

Anybody, going by how activities of the day unfolded, would conclude, perhaps, that there are attempts by Jubilee to introduce Mr Moi to the public with the aim of making him take over power in 2022.

Foreign trips:

Since the year began, DP Ruto has represented President Uhuru Kenyatta in a number of events outside the country.

Mr Ruto, since January, has been in Mbabane Swaziland, Bamako Mali, Younde Cameroon as well as Accra Ghana where he represented the Head of State during the swearing-in ceremony of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In 2016, he went to Kampala Uganda to represent the commander in chief when President Museveni was sworn in after defeating Col Kizza Besigye in a presidential race. These are just a few among the many trips the DP has gone representing Mr Kenyatta.

Anything wrong with this?

Jubilee, by giving the DP all this freedom wants to make him look like a king. He is being psychologically prepared for an outcome those scheming the presidential succession deal know will not go down well with him.

Mr Ruto will not be given the opportunity to question the dealers' decision- if they picked somebody else from Rift Valley to back for president in 2022. Why? He had his time to enjoy.

Behind the overseas trips, there is serious lobbying that entails picking somebody else from Rift Valley who voters from Central Kenya will back in 2022.

And most probably this person will be Gideon Moi, the son of a man who picked Uhuru from the wilderness and introduced him to politics in 2002.

Remember former President Daniel arap Moi took over the country's leadership from Uhuru's father, Jomo Kenyatta.
