A Jubilee Party Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua allegedly hired goons to harass Martha Miano an election observer after nabbing and reporting a woman who was giving out bribe.
Speaking during a by-election at Ruguru ward in Nyeri County, Miano said that the Mathira legislator ordered one of the goons to forcefully evict them from the premises claiming that she was not an election observer but a campaigner for one of the candidates in the Ruguru ward contest.
She also said that she managed to catch the woman red-handed giving out money and called the police who arrested her and took her to the police station.
“While going around doing the observation, I was informed that there was a case at Ndondoni polling center of voter bribery. I came and we managed to find a red-handed woman dishing out money, and we called on the police and the woman was arrested and taken to the police station. Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua also came and was pushing to have the woman released and he instructed one of his people to have us forcefully evicted.”
The by-election was held after the death of its former MCA Peter Weru who collapsing while giving a speech on Jamhuri day.
