Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is one of the country’s experienced politicians. The former Vice president has served in the country’s top political positions over the year's.
Kalonzo was among top politicians who ganged up in 2002 under the National Rainbow Alliance to end retired president Daniel Arap Moi’s 24-year rule.
In 2007, the former Vice President unsuccessfully contested for the presidency in the disputed election that led to post-election chaos.
Kalonzo contested for a seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM- Kenya) party ticket.
According to the election results by the then Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK), Kalonzo emerged third behind Raila and Kibaki.
At the height of the post-election chaos that led to at least death of 300 Kenyans, destruction of property and displacement of communities, Kibaki appointed Kalonzo as Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs.
This was after the retired president had been sworn in at a private event.
Kalonzo expressed gratitude to Kibaki for the appointment as international community pressure mounted on Kibaki and Raila to talk and end the chaos.
Kibaki and Raila remain defiant with both leaders giving conditions for any negotiations.
However, the two leaders agreed to talk under the mediation of former United Nations (UN) Secretary General Koffi Annan.
Their talks led to the signing of the signing of a power-sharing agreement between Kibaki and Raila.
In the Grand coalition deal that was announced on April 13, 2008, Kalonzo remained the Vice President and Minister of Home Affairs.
Raila took up the Prime Minister position as calm and peace returned to the country.
