Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka one of the country’s experienced politicians owing to his long service in politics. The former Vice President in his political career has rubbed shoulders with competitors often being branded names.
As a typical politician, Kalonzo says that he is not offended by the names he is called by his political nemesis.‘
Watermelon’ is the name Kalonzo was baptized with even as he battles to reclaim his political glory. The Wiper Party leader was given the name because of what those who gave him the name said he lacked strong political stand.
The name ‘watermelon’ has also been used to insinuate that the former Vice President is a coward who lacks firm political decisions.
Kalonzo has been forced to cope with the name that has often led to criticism and ridicule. He, however, observes that he does not have grudges against people who nicknamed him ‘watermelon’.
Kalonzo first earned the name during the campaigns for the 2010 constitutional referendum as he was among politician’s advocating for the new constitution that was represented by green color. The opposing team was represented by red color. He was accused of supporting the red team at night and the green team during the day.
On January 30 this year, Kalonzo was under criticism and ridicule after he skipped NASA leader Raila Odinga’s inauguration as the people’s president. Raila’s allies accused Kalonzo, ANC party leader Musila Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula of being cowards.
Kalonzo has been quoted as saying that he is not a ‘watermelon’ though he loves the fruit.
