The two top Kamba leaders fell out immediately after the 2013 general election that saw Mutua elected first Machakos Governor on wiper Party ticket.

Governor Mutua who is considered as Kalonzo’s political child fell out with the former Vice President's party accusing it of undermining opinion from members.

Mutua claimed that Wiper party was being controlled by few people who after their own interests and not ready to work for the people.

The governor’s frosty relationship continued even as he was asked to quit the party.

He claimed that Kalonzo had failed to provide direction in the party.

In 2015, the Machakos governor formed his Maendeleo Chap Chap party as his relationship with Kalonzo and other Wiper politicians deteriorated.

The governor continued attacks on Kalonzo accusing the former Vice President of doing nothing to uplift the living standards of Ukambani people.

He (Mutua) often asked Kalonzo and other ‘old’ politicians to retired and give space to young politicians who will spearhead Kamba agenda.

The Machakos governor officially quit Wiper in 2016 when he launched his party ad announced that he was going to seek re-election on it.

Governor Mutua won re-election in last year’s polls amid stiff competition form Wiper candidate Wavinya Ndeti.

Ndeti had been endorsed by Wiper and was being used to send Mutua packing according to political analysts.

Kalonzo-Mutua rivalry continues as the two leaders have both declared an interest in the 2022 presidential seat.

Pressure is, however, mounting on the two Kamba politicians to reconcile and form a  formidable force that will guarantee the Kamba community of presidency in the 2022 general election.
