Nyali MP and Mombasa governorship hopeful Hezron Awiti has now accused Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of betrayal, leading to his defection from the party.
Speaking at Wild Waters Entertainment Park in Mombasa on Tuesday, Awiti claimed that Mr Musyoka had promised him that Wiper Party would hold primaries in Mombasa that would see the legislator face off with Senator Hassan Omar for the party ticket, adding that the plan was aborted in an unclear circumstances in the last minute.
“We held talks for several hours before the agreement was reached. But when it came to holding the delegates' meeting, Kalonzo betrayed me,” Awiti noted.
“When I asked what the problem was, I was told we were going to negotiate. Later, Omar was endorsed by some people and I said enough is enough and walked out,” he added.
Until his defection from Wiper Party, Awiti was the party's National treasurer.
Awiti has since joined Vibrant Democratic Party, on whose ticket he is expected to vie for governorship on in the forthcoming general elections.
He will battle it out with the incumbent governor Ali Hassan Joho (ODM), Senator Hassan Omar (Wiper Party) and Jubilee Party's Suleiman Shahbal.
