Kamba people are traditionally believed to have close relationship with the Kikuyus. In fact, if you check up the history of the Kamba people, a story is told that the Akamba bore a son called 'Kikuyu' who married 'Mumbi' and together the two started the Kikuyu family.
No wonder they share some of the names like Mumbi and Wambui in Kikuyu and Mumbe and Wambua in Kamba.
Mumbe is a name given to a beautiful girl. Mumbua for a girl and Wambua for a boy are given when the babies are born during rainy season.
When the parents wait for long to get a child, they will name him Mutua or Mwikaki if she is a girl.
Waeni is given to a girl born at a time of visitors and Munyao is given to a boy born during famine.
A child born at night is named Mutuku for a boy and Nduku for a girl. Kioko is given to a boy born in the morning.
Kambas also name their children after important positions like Musili for judge, Muthui to mean the rich one, Mutongoi to mean a leader and Ngumbau to mean a hero.
