One of the major and most tragic attacks was recorded at the Garissa University in April 2015.

The presence of KDF officers in Somalia saw a sudden upsurge in terrorist attacks against civilians since October 2011.

According to crime statistics from the police, attacks staged during the over 60 months since the Operation Linda Nchi commenced lies at nine times more as compared to a similar duration before the mission began.

The attacks have also been more ferocious, with deaths and injuries sustained through terrorism between October 2011 and July 2016 being eight times more than those recorded between 2008 and September 2011.

Basing on reports at the Global Terrorism Database, Kenya has experienced 340 terrorist attacks staged by both local and international perpetrators, recording 986 deaths leaving at least 1,520 others with injuries.

While security and military experts have frequently issued warnings of more attacks as a revenge on the presence of KDF in Somalia, analysts say there is no reliable evidence that the Somali forces are strong enough to stand on its own in the event of a possible pull out by Amisom forces.
