Fresh details are now emerging on how former Gatanga constituency MP Peter Kenneth rejected a Cabinet position proposed to him by State House so he could drop his gubernatorial bid for Senator Mike Sonko.
Although Kenneth ardently denied ever receiving such proposals, the Star has revealed the behind-the-scenes activities that saw him decline the offer to head the Infrastructure Development ministry.
Sources revealed that Kenneth met President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handlers at State House last Tuesday where the offer was made.
The two sides however failed to reach an agreement after Kenneth remain adamant that the only ministry worth his stepping down was that of Finance, a stance Uhuru's handlers could not buy.
"The sources said after Kenneth declined, Nairobi politicians allied to him met at State House and it was resolved that they back Sonko," says the Star.
Efforts to talk Sonko out of the race had simiary hit a snag after he rejected the Metropolitan CS docket and insisted he would go to the ballot through all means.
The senator eventually won the Jubilee ticket, trouncing Kenneth by garnering 138,185 votes against second-placed Kenneth who had 62,504, with Bishop Margaret Wanjiru coming third after getting 7,654 votes.
