The National Olympics Committee-Kenya (NOCK) and Athletics Kenya are worried about the increased cases of doping that have dogged the country in the past few years.
The two bodies have now warned the country that the doping menace will eventually take a toll on the country, and might completely tarnish the country’s glittering name in athletics.
They have further warned that Kenya might go the Russia way if the menace is not curbed soon.
Russia was banned from international competition in 2015 and only athletes cleared by world governing body, the IAAF or International Olympics Committee (IOC) from the nation are permitted to compete under the neutral flag.
This comes a week after star athlete, former Olympic and three-time world men 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop tested positive of banned substance.
According to NOCK chairman, Paul Tergat, who was attending the awarding ceremony of medalists from the Gold Coast Games voiced his concerns too.
“As a former athlete, I feel pained. I’m disturbed. This cancer called doping is shadowing Kenya’s prowess as an athletics powerhouse which we built over time,” underlined Tergat.
