A section of members of the National Assembly are planning to re-introduce the Prime Minister position, as it was, in the grand coalition government.

MPs such as Majority Leader Aden Duale, Lugari MP Ayub Savula and ODM chairman John Mbadi indicated there were suggestions on how best to amend the Constitution, so as to introduce a hybrid system of government.

According to Duale, this would see leaders who lose in general elections, be favoured.

The MPs said the current government is purely presidential system of governance, which is completely misplaced for developing democracies since it excludes communities and is not accountable.

According to Savula, the Opposition supports a proposal that a referendum be held 90 days after election, to change the Constitution and have the Prime Minister post.

Kenya's First Prime Minister was Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, before becoming president December 1964.

Raila Odinga also held similar office 2008-2013 during the grand coalition government.

The office was then abolished April 2013.
