As Kenya and the world at large continue mourning the passing on of Stanley Kenneth Matiba, Kiambu leaders have condoled the family of the late 'second liberation' hero following his demise on Sunday at the Karen Hospital.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria described the late Matiba as his hero and political mentor who fought hard to make Kenya a better country.
"I have just learnt with profound sadness the passing away of my hero and political mentor Kenneth Stanley Njindo Matiba. It is KSN who ignited me and many others with the passion for public service. Matiba's braveness, fortitude and ultimate sacrifice has given us the freedoms that we enjoy today. Rest in peace Mundu wa Njindo. Till we meet again," he said.
Thika Township MP Patrick Wainaina called on the government to honour the former Cabinet Minister by facilitating his burial as a statesman.
"Matiba is a truly Kenyan hero. We celebrate his greatness as a fighterfor Kenya democracy. He deserves a state funeral!" the MP said.
Former Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang'wa said Matiba was a role model to many young politicians.
"It's because of your resilience and persistence that some us ran for political offices successfully while young, moneyless, partyless and above all fearless. Viva Matiba. Extremely Honoured to have met you in person," Karungo posted on Facebook.
Matiba, 85, died on Sunday evening at Karen hospital where he was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the past three weeks.
Doctors said the politician died of cardiac arrest.
