Former President Mwai Kibaki has a close political relationship with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

In the height of the disputed 2007 general election, Kibaki rescued Kalonzo's politically career.

Kalonzo had contested in the disputed polls emerging third after Raila and Kibaki according to results by the then Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK).

As the post election violence heightened in some parts of the country and pressure from the international community mounting on Odinga and Kibaki to end the fracas, Kalonzo declared support for Kibaki.

Kalonzo who had fallen out with Raila prior to the disputed 2007 polls ganged up with Kibaki as Odinga disputed declaration of Kibaki as the presidential winner.

As the violence went on, Kalonzo agreed to be sworn in as Kibaki’s deputy as part of national accord to restore peace and end violence.

This is after Kibaki had been sworn in at a private place in the night for his second term.

Kalonzo who was bashed for teaming up wih Kibaki helped in the mediation process that saw the violence end and formation of the grand coalition government.

A section of politician's have often alleged that Kalonzo teamed up with kaibaki with the promise that he would be endorsed for the 2013 general election.

Kibaki however did not endorse Kalonzo in 2013 and inseatd supported the now president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kalonzo teamed up with Raila under the Coalition for Reforms and Democrats (CORD) losing to Uhuru Kenyatta.

The former Vice President political career has remained uncertain even as he eyes the 2022 presidential seat.
