The club's chief executive officer, Lordvick Aduda, confirmed earlier in the day.

According to the official, the accident that occurred in Mlolongo area along Nairobi-Mombasa highway resulted in the loss of at least two fans.

"I have been informed of two deaths which are very unfortunate," said  Aduda.

The fans aboard the 32-seater minibus were traveling to Machakos where Gor Mahia was to play against Thika United in a KPL match.

According to witness reports, the deceased were riding on top of the bus which did not have a carrier.

Many other fans who got injured in the accident were rushed to hospital for treatment. Up to the time of the accident, police were yet to arrive at the scene.

That aside, how would we avoid more deaths of soccer fans in the country as we try to grow the beautiful game?

Such scenes of fans riding on top of buses which lack carriers when heading to match venues are a common thing.

In most cases, these buses are normally driven at a very high speed; something which is too dangerous for the safety of fans. Both fans and drivers normally seem to be carried away by the heat of the moment.

Therefore to prevent more deaths, there is the need for precautions to be taken to avoid any further loss of more lives of football fans in this country.

Drivers should be cautious enough when driving and fans should be discouraged from hanging as well as riding on top of these vehicles.

This way it will be easy to avoid such accidents that happen due to human error.
