Machakos residents have reacted differently to the Court of Appeal ruling that nullified Governor Alfred Mutua’s re-election in last year’s general election.
Residents took to various social media platforms mostly facebook (Kamba politics, Machakos county forum, and Machakos county politics) among others to express their views after the Court of Appeal Judge William Ouko ordered for fresh gubernatorial election.
Here are some of the views expressed by Machakos residents on Mutua’s election nullification;
Gabriel Muli said, “Tibim, Mam (Wavinya Ndeti) Tosha, we are solidly behind you,”.
Paul Kyalo said, “It is now time for Mama whether they like it or not.”
Francis Wambua stated, “Haki kwa Macha, Mama Tosha.”
Gabriela Muoka stated, “Sinema home, Mama fresh."
Some of the locals said that Mutua had failed them and that it is time for a change.
However, there are residents who questioned the Court of Appeal ruling, stating that Mutua will remain their governor.
Philip Kamesa said, “ Mutua will win, wait for Supreme Court.”
Enock Musili - “Mutua is the people’s choice, he remains governor.”
Stella Ndunge - “God is not asleep, Mutua will be reinstated.”
On Friday, the Court of Appeal Judge William Ouko nullified Mutua’s re-election on grounds that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) failed to conduct free and fair gubernatorial election.
In his ruling, the Judge said that the results announced by the IEBC returning officer could not be verified and failed the constitutional test.
The judge also ordered governor Mutua and the IEBC to pay the cost of the petition that had been filed by Wavinya Ndeti.
In February, Machakos High court Judge Aggrey Muchelule had upheld Mutua’s re-election.
In his ruling then, Muchelule said that Wavinya Ndeti had failed to provide sufficient evidence to nullify Mutua’s re-election.
The Court of Appeal ruling sets another fierce political battle between Mutua and Ndeti who are not seeing eye to eye.
