Governor Jackson Mandago on Tuesday said the business is booming that it now threatens genuine fuel dealers in the town.

He said the operation will be carried out unannounced.

"Eldoret is among towns in the country with the highest quantities of adulterated fuel products. We have sung this song for a long time and I want to warn all those selling this fuel that it won't be business as usual again," the county chief said.

"We have done our investigations and we know all their operations. They will be in for a rude shock in not so long," he added.

Mandago expressed concerns that most of the diesel sold in Eldoret town is mixed with paraffin, a product that spoils engines of vehicles.

He said some of the adulterations of the fuel products is done in a neighboring county before it is transported to Eldoret at night for sale.

Adulterated fuel is that which is contaminated and is usually a mixture of kerosene or paraffin with diesel. The product is dangerous as it spoils vehicle engines.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in January raised concern over the continued sale of adulterated fuel in the country.
