Just about 30 years ago, Mlolongo was just a bushy area located 15 km from Nairobi.
The town's proximity to the capital city has seen it growing exponentially. As Nairobi is expanding, more developments are being pushed towards Mlolongo.
Nowdays people prefer to construct residential houses away from the bustle and hustle of the city and Mlolongo offers just that.
Mlolongo town started as a small business centre where kiosks and shops were put up to sell food and drinks to sand traders and heavy track drivers.
The weighbridge in Mlolongo has also contributed to immense growth of the town. Heavy commercial truck drivers from Mombasa would spend long hours at the weighbridge and therefore was the need for accomodation.
When industries were constructed there, many people settled around the place prompting mushrooming of residential flats.
Its proximity to Jomo Kenyatta international airport has seen the booming of hotel business. Now Mlolongo boasts of bars, pubs, hotels, supermarkets, schools, banks and hospitals.
