The recent decision by a Nyamira gubernatorial aspirant Charles Mochama to ditch Cord for Jubilee was a well-planned move orchestrated by his opponent and former area MP Walter Nyambati, a source privy to the move has claimed.

Mochama caught his supporters by surprise after making the unprecedented move, and insisted that his decision was guided following detailed discussions with Deputy President William Ruto.

But the source who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed that State House planned the move to 'neutralise' Mr Mochama's influence and give a slight advantage to a Jubilee candidate, probably Mr Nyambati in 2017.

“I want to assure you that as Jubilee, the only way we can win the Nyamira gubernatorial seat was to plan for Cord’s favourite candidate move to our side. The move was planned well with Nyambati with assistance from State House and finally we have him with us,” said the source.

“This doesn’t mean though that Mochama will be out of the equation. We wanted to neutralise him, take him for the Jubilee nominations and because Nyambati has been in establishments for long, he will definitely win and our new friend will be appointed to a state job because we are sure of victory in the presidential race. The scheme seems to have now worked,” added the source.

“People have said a lot that Jubilee is planning to front Matiangi but that’s not true. Nyambati is still the favourite and Mochama as a technocrat, will withdraw in the last minute and people from the larger Bogetutu will vote for Nyambati,” the source added.

However, neither Nyambati nor Mochama could be reached for comment because the former is understood to be out of the country while the latter could not respond to phone calls.
