Car companies figured out a long time ago that the world doesn’t work that way the general public does. The Range Rover sport as introduced in 2004 is a prime example of this.
Aesthetics: the SUVs boxy simple and the 2013 Sport has wandered further from this ideal and close to the clean composed urban look of the Evoque. It looks as rugged as a high street fashion supermodel.
Like the model, the updated sport will venture into the wild only for carefully choreographed photo shoots. While it’s technically an off-roader made by arguably the best SUV company in the world, the 2013 Sport looks a bit too soft and dainty.
Every visible surface is covered with luxurious wood and soft touch rubber materials. It feels classy and stately while the elevated seating position is commanding and visibility all around excellent.
The air suspension and impeccable sound deadening distances you further from the brash noise of the rest of the world. Head off the beaten path and that’s when the Sport really comes into its element.
The Range Rover Sport has finally deserved the name. It feels much faster than its predecessor and looks better too. It handles rough terrain without much fuss as any Range Rover should and is as civilized as a big saloon on the road. It’s a painstakingly crafted car that impresses both within and without and if you get the V8 it sounds even better!
And very expensive! That’s why anyone in their right mind buys a Defender instead. It may not be as comfortable or as powerful but it will keep going when everything else grinds to a halt.
