Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has criticised a petition filed by Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri to remove Chief Justice David Maraga from office.

Speaking to the press at the Parliament Buildings on Thursday, Kuria said the petition was misplaced and should be dropped.

"I think that the person with a primary interest in this matter is President Uhuru Kenyatta since it was his win that the Supreme Court annulled. If he (Uhuru) has not found any reason to institute such a petition, then I believe Ngunjiri is grossly out of order," the MP said.

"I will prevail upon him to withdraw the petition," Kuria pledged.

In a 14-page petition presented to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Ngunjiri claimed the Judiciary has been held captive by a section of civil society groups, which were against President Uhuru's presidency since 2013.

Jubilee Party which is led by Uhuru has distanced itself from the petition.

"The petition is a Ngunjiri petition and not a Jubilee Party case," said Raphael Tuju, JP spokesperson.
