As President Uhuru Kenyatta focuses on his Big Four agenda during his second term, the eyes of Kenyans are on the members of parliament to pass laws that will see the delivery of the projects and transform the lives of Kenyans.
The president has said his main agenda between now and 2022 is affordable housing, universal healthcare, manufacturing and food security.
Now that there is a public goodwill towards achieving milestones in the four key areas, the MPs need to ride on the development momentum by giving priority to Bills in parliament that touch on the Big Four.
Already, the president has urged the lawmakers to play their part in transforming the lives of millions of Kenyans by passing the legislation.
“We need to pass laws that will enable us to achieve the agenda that will transform the lives of Kenyans. There is no time. We have to maximise on the resources at our disposal,” President Kenyatta said when meeting legislators at State House.
Since many of the members of parliament under Jubilee Party, who are the supermajority in the House, rode on the president's manifesto to win their seats in last year’s election, the voters would judge them harshly if they derail the head of state’s agenda.
The lawmakers in other parties can also claim to have contributed in the president’s far-reaching legacy if they help pass the laws.
The Energy Bill, Land Index Bill, Roads Bill and Cyber Crime Bill as some of the legislation that should be given priority, according to President Kenyatta.
