Kisii County is one of the 47 counties in Kenya courtesy of the new Constitution which created the new system of governance.
It shares common borders with Nyamira County to the North East, Narok to the South and Homa Bay and Migori Counties to the West.
The county is located between latitude 0 30' and 1 0' South and Longitude 34 38' and 35 0' East and covers a total area of 1,332.7 kilometres square, making it the second smallest county in Nyanza after Nyamira.
It's divided into nine constituencies namely; Kitutu Chache North, Kitutu Chache South, Bobasi, South Mugirango, Nyaribari Masaba, Bomachoge, Borabu, Bomachoge Chache and Bonchari.
It further has nine sub-counties, 24 divisions, 75 locations and 190 sub-locations.
Kisii also has 45 electoral wards with Bobasi constituency having eight.
Based on the 2009 census, the county has a population of 1,152,282 comprising of 550,464 males and 601,818 females respectively.
With a population growth rate of 2.1 percent, the population is projected to be 1,362,779 in 2017.
Currently, Bobasi constituency is the most densely populated with 190,074 inhabitants with the population density estimated to be 935 persons per square kilometre.
The county has 467 Primary Schools and 334 secondary schools of which two are national schools; Kisii School and Nyabururu Girls.
There is no national polytechnic in the county but it has seven colleges, one training institute, one public university and eight university campuses.
Unemployment rate is estimated at 61 percent with majority of those affected being youth.
The county has 71 level 2, 18 level 3, 8 level 4 and 1 level 5 hospitals which also include mission and private hospitals.
The county has high literacy levels standing at 89.5 percent.
