Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has a nightmare on August 8 to defend his seat. The incumbent is seeking a second term as a county boss on his Maendeleo Chap Chap party. 

However, Wiper has fronted Wavinya Ndeti to unseat him. This is one of the hotly contested seats in the Tuesday polls with the results having serious effects on Ukambani politics.

If Mutua trounces Wavinya Ndeti then Akamba conservatives in political matters will have lost. Kalonzo’s political rebel son will have a say in Ukambani politics something that will dwindle Musyoka’s chances of making it to State House.

MCC under Mutua’s stewardship endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election in a NASA stronghold. With our tribal voting patterns and politicking that is not sensitive to development, Mutua should lose but if the reverse happens then Ukambani might have to wait longer for the Presidency. Mutua and Kalonzo have declared their interest in the 2022 presidential battle.

However, a Wavinya Ndeti win with majority votes for NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga will be a plus for Kalonzo Musyoka. It can increase the chances of Kalonzo being prioritized in the 2022 presidential race.
