Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s win against the petition filed against him by the former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti is a major boost for his 2022 presidential bid, says political analyst Peter Ngure.
Ngure observes that the win gives Governor Mutua political command, stamina and bargaining power as he eyes the presidential seat in 2022.
In an interview on Friday, the Kiambu based political analyst said that Mutua’s 2022 presidential journey has just begun.
Ngure said it would have been a blow to Mutua in his presidential dream had the court nullified his re-election.
'‘I think Governor Mutua is the person to watch now moving to 2022 succession politics,’' Ngure added.
The analyst noted that Mutua is setting himself as the next Kamba political kingpin.
Ngure said that with what has been happening in regards to NASA deputy leader Kalonzo Musyoka recently, Governor Mutua could be the next Kamba political leader.
He said Mutua’s petition win dents Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's 2022 presidential bid.
The analyst said it is going to be hard for Kalonzo to convince the Kamba community that he is still their kingpin.
Ngure at the same time said that Mutua’s Friday win is a blow to Ndeti’s political career unless she teams up with the governor.
'‘Ndeti has a lot of homework to do if she still wants to remain in politics because as it stands now her political goose is cocked,’' he added.
High court Judge Aggrey Muchelule on Friday upheld Mutua’s re-election dismissing the petition filed by Wavinya Ndeti.
Muchelule in his ruling said Ndeti’s petition lacked merit.
The Judge ruled that the petitioner (Wavinya Ndeti) failed to provide evidence to substantiate her allegations against Governor Mutua's re-election.
Judge Muchelule ordered the petitioner to pay Sh10 million as the cost of the suit.
