The internal audit, compiled between October and December last year, has revealed that the bills were included and are scheduled for payment by the end of the 2016/2017 Financial Year.

The most hit sectors, according to the Daily Nation, are the Environment (with Sh4.3 million courtesy of price inflation), Water and Natural Resources and Public Works departments.

The paper learnt that most of this fraudulent transactions happened in the last quarter of the last Financial Year, as the nation approached the concluded election season.

The Education sector is the worst, with the report showing that it has an inflated cost of items amounting to 14 million shillings.

The 700 page document indicates that only 24 percent of all the money owed to suppliers and contractors is genuine.

It indicates that of all the 3 billion owed to private firms, only Sh722 million is genuine and deserves payment.

The audit report further reveals that many of the projects consuming the funds were not properly tendered with one contractor billing the county Sh17 million without any supporting documents.

The report has since been presented to the county governor Lee Kinyanjui awaiting action.
