Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale may win back his Garissa Township parliamentary seat in the August 8 polls.
Unlike in Jubilee and its affiliate parties where members have agreed to field only one candidate for the Garissa Township seat, the National Super Alliance (NASA) has fielded two candidates.
Former Parliament Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim was recently handed direct nomination by Wiper Party while Nassir Dolal will vie on an ODM ticket.
Maalim and Dolal could be at a disadvantage as they could divide the opposition votes and easily hand over victory to fire-spitting Duale.
Majority of the residents in Garissa Township who are not Somalis support the opposition and NASA is banking on their vote to win the MP seat.
Unless NASA fields one candidate- either Maalim or Dolal, then Duale may run away with victory after the fourth coming election.
Attempts to make Dolal step down for Maalim last week hit a snag when he said only ODM party leader Raila Odinga can advise him suspend his MP ambition.
He, however, expressed confidence that Duale will be out of Parliament after August.
“Our resolve remains that after August 8 we have a new MP for Garissa Township,” Dolal said while campaigning in the constituency.
“It doesn’t matter what formula we shall use.”
