The unity deal that President Uhuru Kenyatta signed with Raila Odinga will help him clear all hurdles in the implementation of the Big Four Agenda.
Before Friday, a number of leaders in NASA-controlled counties had vowed to fight against President Kenyatta's transformative agenda in providing universal healthcare, affordable housing, food security and manufacturing at the grassroots. But those same leaders are now rallying behind the head of state's legacy projects, which are mainly going to be rolled out at the county level.
During this year's devolution conference, all governors in the country plan to use the event to realign their development programmes in the counties with the national government's Big Four Agenda. The meeting of the county bosses, set for Kakamega from April 23, will explore more meaningful partnerships with the Uhuru Kenyatta administration.
In a rare case of political heavyweights shelving their personal differences for the sake of the country, President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Odinga agreed to work together in fighting negative ethnicity, tribal divisions, corruption, insecurity among other things.
ODM chairman John Mbadi, also the national assembly minority leader, is now supporting the Jubilee Party's agenda in parliament. This is after months of rallying NASA-affiliated MPs in boycotting essential House sittings to discuss the ruling party's development programmes.
The deal will be a massive boost in rolling out the president's second-term projects, which Kenyans will remember him for. Already, many are praising the pact, which is likely to be the major step in ending huge divisions in the country.
ODM and Jubilee parties, the two biggest political outfits in the land, have vowed to work together for the success of the agreement between the president and his former rival.
So far, no notable leader in the country has voiced any opposition to the deal. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC boss Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula are happy that the dialogue they have been calling for is finally happening.
