Boniface Mwangi is a cool chap. He is a good activist with a clear message. He wants corruption to end in our political system. He wants the basic human rights of every Kenyan to be observed. He wants a perfect Kenya where we can all hold hands and be jolly.

In a nutshell, Boniface Mwangi believes that one day, our lovely Kenya will be the epitome of democracy, peace, and love in Africa.

We need 1,000 more Boniface Mwangi's in Kenya!

Unfortunately, and allow me to quote the movie by Leonardo Decaprio ‘Blood Diamond’ when I say out loud, ‘THIS IS AFRICA!’

By these three words, one needs to understand that the utopian ideals preached by Karl Max, Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara and even by George Orwell in 'Animal farm' do not apply in this Great Continent of ours!

Our ways of doing things as Africans in general, and as Kenyans in particular, do not follow European ideals.

Boniface Mwangi ran a clean campaign for Starehe MP and that was his downfall.

We as Kenyans, are not used to the messages of hope and change without the accompanying money to entice us to vote for you on the ballot.

Boniface Mwangi did a good thing by strutting around Starehe constituency on his motorcycle talking to the regular mwananchi and ‘preaching’ his message of change, destroying corruption, equal rights and even educating them on a few aspects of the constitution.

His message was good, but he lacked the foresight to know that for you to seal the deal with a voter, you have to give him something to ‘eat’ or ‘chop’ as our Nigerian and Ghanaian brothers say.

Rather than giving hard cash, Boniface gave what resembled a one thousand shilling note but had his political manifesto printed on it.

From where I seat, he was mocking the voter! He should have handed down hard cash! Not printed look-alike materials with symbolism on them.

And that is why I want to advise any aspiring politician not to follow in Boniface Mwangi’s footsteps. I prefer that you get some hard cash and utilize it properly to make the electorate happy because THIS IS AFRICA!

Another option would be to be properly endorsed by a political godfather!

Other than that, you might have to rely on the gods of luck like the current youngest MP from Igembe South.
