President Uhuru Kenyatta is a satisfied man after making his final and much needed political achievement.
Kenyatta was grappling with rejection by a section of the country, led by opposition leader Raila Odinga, following the one-man race that saw him recapture his post in the October 26 presidential re-run, one that was snubbed by Odinga and his National Super Alliance (NASA) fraternity of leaders and supporters citing bias.
The election saw a huge portion of the electorate, mostly those hailing from areas deemed opposition bedrocks, refuse to participate on the orders of the veteran politician, with Kenyatta only garnering only 7,483,895 out of all the 19.6 million registered voters, with the opposition going ahead to brand him the illegitimate head of state.
The President has, however, played his cards well in the last few weeks and seems to has gained the ''legitimacy'' that was taken away by Odinga, by the former Premier himself.
As a result of their ''Golden Handshake'' outside Kenyatta's Harambee House offices on March 9, one that was announced to be the first step as the two begin a national healing campaign, Odinga gave the President the legitimacy he needed.
As a result, Kenyatta is now enjoying acknowledgment as the Head of State from opposition leaders, while Odinga is on the other hand being referred to as the People's President following his January 30 mock inauguration at Nairobi's Uhuru Park.
One of such was Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader who, while requesting a similar meeting with Kenyatta, referred to his as President.''We are also interested in holding a meeting with His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta.
We will reach out to him upon his return from Cuba,'' the former Vice President told the press at the Africa Brotherhood Church in Machakos on Wednesday, March 14, 5 days after the truce.
More and more leaders have further followed the trend in the recent past, an achievement to Kenyatta who can now retire in peace come 2022, knowing that he was a constitutionally elected President for two consecutive terms.
