Opposition supremo Raila Odinga's adviser Salim Lone now says that the leader's move to extend a hand of friendship to President Uhuru Kenyatta was a well thought step.
Speaking on Monday, Lone said that having earlier disapproved President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 and October 26 re-election's, Odinga was aware that dialogue was the only remaining peaceful way to realize his push for talks on electoral reforms.
He said that though the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader has the choice of resorting to mass-action, as a result of his huge national following, he opted for a more peaceful way to avoid a possible bloodshed.
''It was clear to Raila that while the continuation of the strategy of legitimate confrontation had mass support, it could end up in bloodshed, which would set back the entire social democratic struggle,'' he posted on the opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) twitter handle Monday.
''That is why Raila had always said that dialogue with an agreed agenda was the only way to achieve national amity and other political and economic goals,'' he added in a separate tweet.
The opposition had earlier employed the mass-action technique, on several occasions, including during the push for change of guard at the national poll body, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with the initially peaceful demonstrations ending up in skirmishes on most occasions.
