A meeting chaired by Kajiado Governor David Nkediany salvaged simmering tension between Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamoong and Funyala MP Paul Otuoma, reveals a source privy to ODM politics.
Otuoma had disputed Busia Governorship ODM primaries citing massive rigging that precipitated ODM NEB to nullify results from Teso North and Teso South constituencies.
And even before the ultimatum to hand him over a certificate elapsed, lawyers Paul Mwangi and Okong’o Mogeni were tasked with Mr Raila odinga to solve the stalemate before it escalated.
“They are all close confidents of Odinga and we had to sit down, analyze the situation and come with the most accurate decision,” said the source who spoke in confidence.
The three arbiters evaluated voting dynamics and regional balancing before advising that Otuoma runs as an Independent candidate to avert further split.
“It was quite complicated because nullifying Ojamoong’s victory could cost Odinga’s votes in Teso and upholding decision to hold elections afresh in Teso could also sabotage Otuoma’s plans,” the source said.
To further dissociate Odinga from the crisis, the lawyers reportedly advised that Odinga keeps off local politics when visiting Busia County during the campaign period.
