The National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition has been completely swallowed by Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has said. Mr Ngunyi and his team of analysts, based at the Fort Hall School of Government, argue that NASA may have died and the country was not told. They give a number of reasons why the opposition’s coalition may have ceased to exist as people know it. One interesting scenario they explore is why Raila, NASA presidential candidate, wants fellow pentagon member Moses Wetangula, to lose his Bungoma senatorial seat in the upcoming elections. “If all is well in NASA, why would Raila sponsor an ODM candidate against Wetangula — his longtime friend?,” one analyst asks in the latest episode of the 5th Estate. The analysts also dig into the absence, in the campaign trail, of the other NASA pentagon members, who include Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetangula. “Why is Raila campaigning alone? Where is the so-called NASA pentagon. Where is Isaac Ruto? Where did he go to? poses lawyer J.M, a PhD candidate. The third theory why the political commentators think NASA is no more is because of perceived lack of funds in the coalition. “Maybe NASA died because it’s broke. And this is why they are fundraising from peasants with no unga,” J.M adds. “Or maybe ODM swallowed NASA and the country was not told.”They then go ahead to argue that the opposition coalition may have been used as a trick to tame the ambitions of Kalonzo, Mudavadi and the other key members with presidential hopes. “Maybe NASA was a cruel ODM joke on Kalonzo and Wetangula. That it was nothing but an ODM wolf clothed in NASA sheep skin,” the lawyer says. Click here to watch the full show.
