Some women have been known to notice a stronger vaginal smell when they get their periods; some women smell an iron-like metallic odor, and others smell ammonia. The following are reasons why you should be cautious about the time you use your menstruation pad. However, use it for convenient times:

1. Some menstrual products have been known to trap odor. Following the many brands in the market, there are some menstruation pads which are well made not to trap odor but others do trap odor. Thus, long usage of these pads will sap up the odor making your vagina smelly.

2. Not wearing internal products. The moisture of maxi pads and reusable cloth pads can contribute to odor. Sitting on a wet pad can also cause an infection. Internal menstrual products examples include menstrual cups.

3. Not changing menstrual products frequently. Always follow the golden rule and change your tampon at a maximum of every eight hours. In case you are likely to forget always have a reminder so that it can remind you when to remove the pad. This way you are likely to limit vaginal odor in future.
