The Pope posted on his twitter handle “The Jubilee is the party to which Jesus invites us all, without excluding anyone”.

On seeing this, Kenyans especially those supporting Jubilee, took advantage of the tweet to root for their party on grounds that even the Holy Father, Pope Francis knew JAP to be the ruling party.

But according to the bible, jubilee and party have a completely different meaning in the Christian context and more so for the Catholic faithfuls.

According to the National Catholic Reporter, symbolically calling on the entire global Roman Catholic church to take up his papacy’s central message of compassion and pardon, Pope Francis announced he is convoking a jubilee year to be called the Holy Year of Mercy, reports the Star.

The Pope has said he has “thought often about how the Church can make more evident its mission of being a witness of mercy,” therefore announcing the new jubilee year during a Lenten penitential service in St Peter’s Basilica.

Jubilee supporters thought it would be exciting to use the tweet to popularize their party but on the other hand, die hard fans of the Raila Odinga-led Opposition Cord, did not take it lightly, leading to a bitter exchange on Twitter.
