Food and transport prices have risen in Kisumu following the recent protests which have left several injured and quite a number dead.
As a result Nandi, Kericho and Nyamira counties have not been delivering food supplies to Kisumu and Nyanza since August 8 after protests broke out once IEBC announced Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the presidential election.
According to reports, those operating matatu’s have increased fare claiming that they are putting their lives and vehicles at risk during the tense post-election period.
According to a motorbike operator named John Ogola there has not been a lot of business the past week.
“Getting fuel is also a challenge as most petrol stations have closed. Finding customers is another big challenge because most people are still indoors due to fear,” said Ogola as reported by The Standard.
The shortage has forced locals to have to travel out of their counties in search of food and produce items needed.
