The first years of Professor Kivutha Kibwana as the Makueni Governor were not a bed of roses as he had to go through one frustration to another.
Just months after an attempt on his life at the assembly grounds, a team of residents filed a petition seeking to dissolve the Makueni County Government.
Surprisingly, over 150,000 voters had appended their signatures in support of dissolving the government.
This initiative sent shivers down the spine of the county legislators who couldn't do anything but wait for the outcome.
President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed a commision led by Mohammed Nyaonga to look into the merit of the petition.
The commision conducted series of hearings on the matter between April and June 2015 where the MCAs fervently pleaded with it to recommend dissolution and fresh elections.
The commision gave the following reasons as to why the government needed to be dissolved; the county assembly refused to have its account books inspected by the County Treasury, Makueni MCAs were 'tools' used by the speaker, Majority Leader, and Clerk to maintain power, sadly since its establishment in 2013, the county assembly had only managed to enact seven laws.
The commission linked the differences between Kibwana and the speaker to political alignments dating back to the last 2013 general election.
However, when the report was tabled before Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta, he rejected the recommendations of the commission.
The MCAs who had been greatly shaken heaved a sigh of relief as many of them knew for a fact they wouldn't make it back if a fresh mandate from the residents was sought.
