National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze has now claimed that the formation of opposition coalition the National Super Alliance (NASA) was a plot by ODM Party to trash a Memorandum of Understanding allegedly signed by ODM Leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka that could see the latter become Presidential candidate under CORD during the 2017 general elections.

In an interview with the Star on Tuesday, Nyenze admitted that metamorphosing CORD to NASA was not well thought, insisting that the 2013 MoU must be honoured and Kalonzo allowed to fly the Opposition Presidential ticket.

“Yeah, and a member of ODM in the Coordinating Committee said that [the MoU] was buried with the death of Cord. So now, what Wiper has seen is that the change of name to NASA was for us to not to lay any claim and kill that MoU, which people learnt [about] and there is no waythey are going to accept,” Nyenze said.

“So unless the presidential candidate, the flagbearer, is Kalonzo, I don't see us moving anywhere,” he added.

Kalonzo has since consolidated his Lower Eastern region support base, with Former Lands CS Charity Ngilu, Chama Cha Uzalendo Leader Wavinya Ndeti and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana supporting his presidential bid.

The recent developments within the Opposition could threaten the unity of the outfit with just five months into the next general elections.

“The reason there's a stalemate is because the MoU wasn't honoured and Cord was killed so we don't raise that issue. NASA came into being and when I asked about it [MoU] in committee [NCC], I was told all those MoUs and agreements were buried in Cord,” Nyenze admitted.
